Whether you’ve decided to go by a nickname, recently changed your name, or just found a new favourite photo for your profile, keeping your identity current in Cuppi is a breeze.

Just a friendly tip: if you’re making a big change (like switching from Richard to Joseph) you might want to give your household a heads-up so they aren't surprised by the new name on the feed!

To update your details:

  1. Tap the Settings icon in your navigation bar.
  2. Select Profile to see your personal account settings.
  3. Update Your Photo: You’ll see your current picture (or your initials) at the top. Tap it and select Photos or Files to upload a new look.
  4. Edit Your Name: Look for the Identity section. Simply tap your name to start typing your updates.
  5. Don't forget to tap Save when you're finished to update your profile across the whole household.

We believe in guidance over restriction, especially when it comes to our children's online lives. We understand the hesitation many parents feel regarding social apps; however, we believe that providing a managed environment is the best way for them to learn.

Because Cuppi is a fully private, secure space shared only with family members, it serves as the perfect introduction to features like the Home Feed, Birthdays, and Pets, helping children understand how to interact with technology responsibly.

Protecting Our Youngest Members

To protect both you and your children, we have implemented specific restrictions for accounts with Child permissions.

Inaccessible Features:

  • Budgeting: Financial data is completely hidden.
  • Community: Access to broader social features is hidden.
  • Receipts: Personal and household spending details are inaccessible.

Partially Accessible (Read-Only):

  • Birthdays: Children can see upcoming dates but cannot edit them.
  • Pets: Children can view pet profiles and schedules.
  • Bin Day: Access to view the household collection schedule.

Sensitive Account Changes

To keep accounts secure, any changes to sensitive information (for accounts registered via email) require Owner approval. This includes password resets and email address updates. Please note that this does not apply to accounts using Sign in with Apple, which utilises Apple’s native security. For more details, see our article on Updating Profiles.

Data Privacy & Minimisation

In strict accordance with UK GDPR and the ICO Children’s Code, we practice rigorous data minimisation for users under 18:

  • Limited Collection: We only collect the bare minimum data required to provide the service (typically a display name, date of birth, and account role).
  • No Location Tracking: Cuppi does not track or store the precise GPS movements of any user.
  • Right to Erasure: Household Owners have the immediate authority to remove a child’s account and all associated data from the household at any time.

Guidance for Parents

We strongly recommend that the Household Owner role is held by a parent or legal guardian. We encourage you to use Cuppi as a practical tool for teaching digital responsibility, using the shared Home Feed as a safe "training ground" for digital communication within the security of the family unit.

We take privacy and security incredibly seriously at Cuppi. It’s why we built the Security Centre - a dedicated space where you can manage your sensitive activities and get a clear overview of how your data is being handled. As our Privacy Policy states, we only collect the absolute minimum amount of information needed to keep your account and your household’s data secure.

Login Security & Biometrics

For an extra layer of protection, you can enable biometric login (FaceID or TouchID). This ensures that only you can access your household, even if your phone is unlocked. As a standard safety measure, the app automatically locks itself after 5 minutes of inactivity.

To enable FaceID/TouchID:
1. Tap on Settings.
2. Tap on Security Centre.
3. Select Biometric Login.
4. You will be prompted to create a 4-digit PIN and grant permission for FaceID or TouchID.

Once set up, the app will ask for authentication every time you return after more than 5 minutes away.

What happens to my personal data after deleting my account?

Our values are the opposite of Big Tech's: your data is yours, and we don't monetise it. In line with GDPR, you have the right to access your data and the right to be forgotten.

A few guardrails keep account deletion safe:

A 7-day cooldown. When you request deletion, nothing is erased immediately. You have 7 days to change your mind or sign back in to cancel the process before it becomes permanent.

If you're an Adult member of a household, your account is likely linked to shared data - Home Feed posts, shopping lists, and similar. When your account is deleted, your identity is anonymised across that shared data rather than removed from it: your name is replaced with "Former member" and your ID is cleared from the records, so household history stays intact without being traceable back to you. Your household stops recognising you as a member.

Note: this is different from simply leaving a household while keeping your Cuppi account - in that case, your content is handed to the household Owner so they can continue managing it. Deleting your account entirely does not transfer your data to anyone; it's anonymised instead.

Once the 7 days pass, your account credentials - email, password, date of birth, and security logs - are permanently deleted from our servers.

Being part of a household is a shared experience with people you trust - your household members or roommates. While you're a member, the content you create remains yours to edit or remove, and you can always request a copy of everything we store about you.
